Courtesy Meeting with the Deputy Director General of TVET in Lao People’s Democratic Republic

Vientiane: Dr. Songheang Ai, director of SEAMEO TED has paid a visit to the Ministry of Education, Lao People’s Democratic Republic to have a courtesy meeting with relevant officials of TVET Directorate General to discuss some cooperation points and to strengthen cooperation on TVET on 7 June 2024. Dr. Ai mentioned some highlights that SEAMEO TED has achieved recently including upcoming events such as the international webinar on International Youth Talk on 18 June, China-Southeast Asia capacity-building program from 12 to 19 June to Beijing and Ningbo, TVET leadership and management program from 17 to 24 August to Beijing and Zhejiang Province, etc. He also raised the Southeast Asian Vocational and Technical High School/College Network currently consisting of 81 school members from 11 SEAMEO countries. The network that was established by SEAMEO TED to learn and share the best practices of TVET needs to extend its members to more Laos TVET schools requiring the coordination from Laos TVET Directorate General.

In response, Mr. Thangsa Inthavong, deputy director general of TVET, Ministry of Education of Laos People’s Democratic Republic welcomed Dr. Songheang Ai by congratulating some achievements recently. He was committed to working cooperatively for skills development in Lao and the ASEAN region on research and development, conference and workshop organization, or resource mobility. Mr. Thangsa will disseminate the network activities to Laos TVET schools for their consideration. Finally, he invited Dr. Ai to speak at the ASEAN TVET conference to be held in Vientiane in October 2024.
