Training Course on “Robot Control” for Technical Education

Kandal Province: The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Center for Technical Education Development (SEAMEO TED) had organized a training course on “Robot Control” which was participated by 36 participants as technical education teachers of Electricity, Electronics and Mechanics from Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN-ROTA Khsach Kandal General and Technical High School in Kandal Province, Cambodia on the 24th to 25th of June, 2024. The objectives of the training are to provide technical education teachers with skills and knowledge on robot control which is an important aspect of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and to strengthen the effective implementation of technical education curricula for Electricity, Electronics and Mechanics at secondary education level.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Khat Prumsochetra, deputy director of SEAMEO TED stressed the importance of the training on Robot Control because the course incorporates both theories and practices along with Robot Cars challenging with each other.  Mr. Khat also took this opportunity to present about the profile of SEAMEO TED highlighting the background information, the organizational structure and brief information about each division’s roles and responsivities and its achievements.

During an opening ceremony, Mr. Heng Pheng, Deputy Director of Kandal Provincial Department of education, youth and sport, appreciated the opportunity to welcome all participants who attended the course. He highlighted the priority plans of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, which have played important roles in contributing to the achievement of national strategic development plans of the Royal Government of Cambodia. He also stressed the importance of the course as it would help build the competence of technical education teachers who reportedly have limited knowledge and skills in teaching Robot Control subject and strongly believed that the course would achieve its objectives.

The trainer, Mr. Thlang Sochen, a founder and CEO of Kintek Technology Co., Ltd has an extensive experience in leading the robotic student teams to join the national, regional and international robot competition. During the two-day course, he covered a number of topics such as Introduction and Types of Robots, Actuator and Sensors (Dc Motor and Driver Motor), Types of Sensors for RobotsSpeed and Position Sensors, Mobile Robot and its Motion, MECANUM Wheel Robot and Equation of Motion, Setting up a Mobile Robot Kid, Mobile Robot Programming, Introduction to Wireless Remote Control, Bluetooth Remote Control, and Using Smart Phone as Remote Control.

Throughout the course, participants were offered ample opportunities to enhance their competences and understanding about robotics in general through the collaboration work and hands-on activities. For example, trainees were provided with an opportunity to work in teams and learn about coding in regards to robot navigation, projects assigned by the trainer to assemble robot cars and make them work and control them using different methods including via Wireless Control, Bluetooth and Smart Phones. After completing the task, each team was put to test the performance of their robot cars and challenged with those of other teams. During the assigned tasks, participants were so engaged and worked hard. As a result, all the teams got their robot cars to work as intended even though some teams took longer than the other ones.
