2023 China-ASEAN Tea Industry Vocational Education Cooperation Forum

Nanning: On 15 September 2023, Dr. Songheang Ai, Director of SEAMEO TED presided over the 2023 China-ASEAN Tea Industry Vocational Education Cooperation Forum and serial activities of the “Silk Road Tea Institute” delivering his opening remarks. The forum was hosted by Guangxi Vocational and Technical College at Mingyang Campus in Nanning City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China, as one of the parallel forums of the 2023 China -ASEAN Conference on Vocational Education Cooperation and Development.
The forum aims to strengthen the coordination of tea culture, tea industry, and tea science and technology under the “Belt and Road” initiative, and to promote the new development and achievements of tea vocational education. It was participated by college presidents/ representatives, representatives from international organizations and trades, tea experts/researchers and well-known entrepreneurs from China and ASEAN countries to learn and share best practices and current trends of tea production.
In his remarks, Dr. Songheang Ai expressed his sincere gratitude for the warm invitation and gracious hospitality of Guangxi Vocational and Technical College. He emphasized that tea technology is becoming increasingly important in the production, processing and packaging of tea. Some key technologies such as harvesting, withering, oxidation, fermentation, drying, grading and packaging have been implementing to ensure that tea is a healthy diet for people. He stated that the forum is not only a starting point for the cooperation but it is also a networking and learning forum among participants. Lastly, he believed that through the “Silk Road Tea Institute”, colleges and organizations from various countries can engage in comprehensive, multi-dimensional, and in-depth industry-education cooperation.
SEAMEO TED has a booth to deplay the centre’s achievements and works at the 2023 China-ASEAN Vocational Education Exhibition which was conducted at Nanning International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
